OPTION 1

BC CRANE ORIENTATION & RIGGING ASSESSMENT (CORE)

Course Description:
Leavitt Machinery’s Crane Orientation & Rigging Enhancement (CORE) Pre-Assessment Seminar has been developed in close communication with both WorkSafe BC and Fulford Harbour CraneSafe to ensure that our program can help maximize your employee’s potential for achieving success with their initial assessment helping you to avoid costly and time-consuming re-assessments.

Pre-assessment preparation seminars are currently available for:
  • Self Erect Tower Cranes (Leavitt Machinery Langley, Kelowna & Onsite Availability)
  • Stiff Boom Truck Cranes Under 40T (Onsite Availability Only)
  • Folding Boom Truck Cranes Under 22T (Onsite Availability Only)
  • Mobile Hydraulic Cranes Under 80T (Onsite Availability Only)
  • Other specialties pending request
Leavitt Machinery can help simplify the process by providing support as a vital link between you and Fulford Harbour CraneSafe, setting up your assessment appointments and we also include your initial operator assessment fee as part of the package price.

Course Structure & Duration:
Available in a variety of formats, Leavitt Machinery will customize the program to include theory examination coaching, hands-on practical coaching or a combination of the two based on the participant’s pre-existing skill set.

Seminars are structured as group sessions limited to a maximum of four participants to ensure there is ample one-on-one instructor and equipment availability. Specifically covered within each program are the main testing criteria:
  • Hand Signals
  • Load Charts and Rigging
  • On-Crane Practical Assessment
    • Pre-operational Inspection
    • Crane Set-up & Hazard Assessment
    • Crane Operation

OPTION 2

ENHANCED CRANE ORIENTATION (NON-BCACS)

Course Objective:
These seminars are designed to meet the safety needs of overhead cranes and truck mounted cranes, specific to your on site machine type. Specific program availability includes: mobile cranes, truck mounted cranes, overhead cranes and self-erecting cranes. The program addresses the following issues:

  • Crane fundamentals
  • pre-operation inspection, set-up (Theory Presentation only)
  • Principals of stability, balance and capacity
  • Controls and functions, operating safety guidelines
  • Safe load handling techniques, movement protection
  • Manufacturers load charts
  • Maintenance and service
  • Overview of regulations
  • Basic rigging
Course Structure:
This comprehensive program consists of the following:
  • Classroom training on the theory of crane operation
  • Hands on operation
  • Performance by the participant of the following:
  1. Completion of a quiz on all aspects including safety regulations of the operation of the equipment
  2. Daily inspection procedure
  3. Site inspection for hazards
  4. Demonstration of safe operation of the machine
Course Duration:
  • 1 day/8 hrs minimum, additional days as required
  • Typical group size: 6-8 participants
  • All courses are conducted on site

OPTION 3

PRACTICAL RIGGING
ORIENTATION SEMINAR

Course Objective:
To provide the student with safe rigging awareness skills. The program addresses the following issues:
  • Introduction to basic rigging safety requirements and regulations
  • Recognizing crane types
  • Demonstrating hoist hand signals
  • Recognizing proper selection, proper use, and practices to avoid when using wire rope slings, chain slings, and synthetic web slings
  • Selecting, Inspecting and using connecting equipment
  • Recognizing and using a variety of rigging hitches
  • Demonstrating safe operating practices when moving a load
Course Structure:
This program consists of the following:
  • Classroom training on the theory of rigging related to your specific crane operation
  • Hands on operation
  • Performance by the participant of the following:
  1. Completion of a quiz on all aspects including safety regulations of the operation of the equipment
  2. Daily inspection procedure
  3. Site inspection for hazards
  4. Demonstration of safe rigging practices
Course Duration:
  • 1 day/8 hrs minimum, additional days as required
  • Typical group size: 6-8 participants
  • All courses are conducted on site
